One of the most frustrating things for a young strings student is to struggle with an inferior instrument. Thanks to the generosity of Mr. Harold Hayslett, the West Virginia Youth Symphony is now in possession of a fine handcrafted cello which will be made available to one lucky student each year. Harold Hayslett, a local instrument maker for more than fifty years, has donated Hayslett Cello #54 to the West Virginia Youth Symphony. To honor this gesture the WVYS has established the Hayslett Cello Chair. The first recipient of this award is Dean Pauley, 1st chair cello in the Youth Strings and a senior at Scott High School. Mr. Hayslett was recognized at the 2007 WVYS Spring Concert.
